Updated over a month ago

If your Classic Retractable hose reel is unexpectedly leaking, use the guide to identify the issue & resolution.

This guide does not cover leaks coming from accessories (such as spray guns) or the fittings/connectors fitting to the hose.

Warranty: Two year warranty

Leaking from the Classic Leader Hose Entry Point

Symptom: A small or persistent drip runs down the Classic leader hose from the leader hose entry point.

Causes

This can be caused by a loose clamp or worn washer.

To identify the cause & subsequent resolution, check the specific location of the leak:

1. Remove the round side panel (where the Classic leader hose enters the reel) using a flathead screwdriver or butter knife.

2. Identify where the leak is occurring:

- At the hose clamp (small drip near silver clamp): ➝ Clamp may need tightening. OR

- Behind the silver circlip: ➝ Rubber o-rings may be worn out.

Resolution 1: Hose Clamp needs tightening

Instructions:

- Turn on the water so the leak is visible.

- Use a 7mm spanner or socket wrench (more leverage than a screwdriver).

- Tighten the clamp clockwise in quarter turns until the leak stops.

Resolution 2: Replacing the Rubber O-Rings

Replacement o-rings for this area are only available from the customer service team. These are not to be confused with the o-rings that are available for purchase on our website for use with hoselink connectors.

Instructions:

1. Remove the silver circlip using circlip pliers.

2. Gently pull the leader hose away from the unit.

3. Remove both black rubber o-rings from the water inlet.

4. Install new o-rings, ensuring they sit flush in the grooves.

5. Wipe and clean the area. Ensure all debris or buildup is removed from the area to guarantee a proper seal when reassembling.

6. Lubricate the o-rings by pulling out the hose and slowly retracting it. Alternatively, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant directly to the O-rings. Avoid using oil-based or water-soluble lubricants as these may compromise the integrity of the O-rings.

7. Replace the elbow joint and secure with the circlip. Before reattaching, verify all components are properly cleaned and seated to prevent future leaks.

Leaking from the Base of the Classic Retractable Hose Reel

Symptom: Water is dripping or pouring from the seam and hole on the underside of the hose reel casing, coming from within the hose reel unit.

Causes

This indicates an internal failure with the body of the hose reel. It is caused by a crack on the water inlet elbow joint.

Resolution

Leaking from the base of the reel is an issue that cannot be repaired.
If the unit is within the 2-year warranty, it is eligible for replacement.

Hole in Hose

Symptom: The main hose on your retractable hose reel is punctured or has a split that needs repairing.

Causes

Due to the robust nature of the hoses that are used in Hoselink reels, a puncture or split is usually due to environmental influences (such as a dog chewing the hose).

Resolution

Cut out the damaged area of the hose and repair using this repair kit: 12mm Retractable Reel Hose Repair Kit | Hoselink
